Adverts

I just remembered to write about an ad that they run on TV here (this is a good example of something that is much different here):

It's an ad for a chicken restaurant actually, not that you can tell hehehe, but it's definitely memorable :)
This ad runs on regular TV here. This would never be allowed in the US, and the YouTube site that I'm linking to has it listed as "adult content". Well as we all know Australia has much different roots (penal colony) than the US (puritans).
Australians are just generally a lot more laid back about things, and this is a good example. I think that if there was a "wardrobe malfunction" at a nationally televised event here that everyone would have a good laugh and leave it at that.
I was talking to someone here the other day about that and they were like "what's the big deal? I don't get it".

Sunrise

Just thought this was a particularly photo-worthy sunrise. Since I have to start work at 6am (translates to 1pm LA time, which is where evite is), I get to see a lot of them :)

Speaking of working from home, here's a pic of my "office" (at least it's got a good view, and if it looks suspiciously like a kitchen table that's cause it is -- we need a bigger place and soon :) I'm going to start looking for a new job here probably mid-july as my contract ends mid-August. It will be nice to have human interaction again during the day other than just thru the net :)

Went to Tiff's co-worker's (Shaylee) birthday party at The Argyle
That place is really cool. It just opened, and there is a line around the block to get in. Luckily we were on the VIP list (Shaylee worked it, go Shaylee!), so we didn't have to wait in line.
The bartenders in the VIP room were unreal. They were juggling the mixers and bottles while making drinks. Like Tom Cruise in "Cocktail", but 100 times better.
I was talking to Tiff's co-worker Graham, and it turns out he was a fairly well known DJ in London.

Trip to Melbourne

Over the weekend we flew to Melbourne to go to a costume party that was hosted by friends of our friends in LA.
Melbourne is really a beautiful city as well. With the trams and the fog, it definitely reminded us of San Francisco (a lot of people say this). It was definitely a lot colder there though... good thing we brought our furry jackets.
We stayed at the Lindrum which is a boutique hotel on Flinders street right in CBD. Really amazing hotel, we'll definitely stay there again.

The party was really fantastic. The theme was "sport". Not having any kind of sports stuff, I just went as a referee (so did like 20 other people). Tiff went as a daredevil ie Evil Kinevil, which was a huge hit.

We met Issy and Robert that run the party (they are friends of our friends Jeff and Lori from Orange County). Really nice people, we'll definitely be back down again to see them.
There were some Sydney people at the party as well. We met a really nice couple named Diorne and Michelle and wound up hanging out with them for the rest of the weekend. They had lived in Melbourne for 6 years and showed us around the city.
Always good to have someone that knows the city with you :)

We went to Chapel Street:

Then to St Kilda where we had to take some photos of this van that clearly belongs at Burning Man:

Darling Harbour IMAX, Jazz festival

We went to the deep sea 3D IMAX feature in Darling Harbour tonight.

If you have a chance, go see this, it was quite good. It really made me want to go diving.

After that we went to the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival for a while, which we both enjoyed.

I really like that area of Sydney, I think it's probably both of our favourites. The view of the city there at sunset is breathtaking.

Makes one glad to be a "Sydneysider" :)

Summary up until now

So since this is the first post, I'll just put everything that has accumulated until now here.
We moved here on 2 March, 2007.
We live in Chippendale, which is part of Sydney.
I'll just let our flickr albums tell the story until now :)
